The author presents the economic conditions and the legal environment of the migrants, she portrays different experiences of migration and their effects on the families remaining in the home country; she also discusses the issues of the transformation of the family during the mother’s absence. Being employed at the margins of the job market constitutes a risk for migrating women and at the same time provides economic safety for many families in Poland.
