Description

This book is devoted to the Jewish artistic milieu in Poland from the mid-19th century to the year 1939. It presents a panorama of artistic phenomena, thought on art, and cultural life. Particular attention is given to the interpretation of works of art, their symbolism and their connections with political and social ideologies. The creative work of many significant painters and sculptors is comprehensively discussed. As well as works stored by museums and private collectors both in Poland and abroad, the book also reproduces unique photographic images published in pre-war periodicals.
